Observer bias in anuran call surveys

Article Abstract:

The accuracy of amphibian call counts in the field is assessed by monitoring a protocol for amphibians in the Rainwater Basins of Nebraska and documented observer bias. The results have shown that high and unquantified error rates might negatively affect the ability of monitoring programs to accurately detect the population or abundance trends.

The optimal number of markers in genetic capture-mark-recapture studies

Article Abstract:

The quantity of markers used to assign individual identity in DNA-based population inventories is recommended to be doubled or tripled relative to the established practice by McKelvey and Schwartz. The impact of the proposal on costs and data quality is discussed.

Evaluation of noninvasive genetic sampling methods for felid and canid populations

Article Abstract:

Noninvasive sampling of hair or scat and subsequent genetic analyses is getting extremely popular to determine behavioral and population characteristics of carnivores, such as density, dispersal and genetic structure.
