Ocean researchers make waves in quest for funds and military data

Article Abstract:

Ocean scientists under the Consortium for Oceanographic Research and Education (CORE) intend to lobby Congress for access to highly confidential ocean research data held by the US military. The group plans to ask legislators to support the creation of a National Ocean Leadership Council, which will be given the task of coordinating ocean research across government. CORE will also seek an additional grant of $25 million for better university ocean research.

Closure of primate lab angers both researchers and critics

Article Abstract:

Scientists and animal rights campaigners are furious that the Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP), New York, is to close down. The decision to close LEMSIP came after its own, New York University, failed to sell the establishment for 1.1 million US dollars. Activists were told that all the chimpanzees at LEMSIP would be retired. However many of them have been transferred for research purposes.
