Arsenic poisoning in the Ganges delta: The natural contamination of drinking water by arsenic needs to be urgently addressed

Article Abstract:

Nickson and colleagues's conclusions that arsenic is released by reductive dissolution or iron oxyhydroxides in alluvial Ganges aquifers are discussed. Observations suggest that arsenic-rich pyrite and and other arsenic minerals, though to cause arsenic pollution, are actually rare or even absent in the sediments of the Ganges delta. It is argued that the arsenic is more likely to be co-precipitated with iron and manganese.

The stress of Gulf War syndrome

Article Abstract:

The research of scientists Kaufer et al on the involvement of the biochemical acetylcholinesterase in Gulf War syndrome is not indisputable. Further research is required to establish if, as Kaufer suggests, stress and AChE work together at the acetylcholine synapse to bring on symptoms via transcription induction. Kaufer's pathway is illustrated, together with the biochemical reaction involving acetylcholine and stress.
