Optical frequency comb generation from a monolithic microresonator

Article Abstract:

A significantly distinct method to comb generation, where equally spaced frequency markers are produced by the interaction between continuous-wave pump lasers of a known frequency with the modes of a monolithic ultra-high-Q microresonator via the Kerr nonlinearity, is presented. The proposed approach can function at repetition rates greater than 100 GHz which are valuable in applications like optical waveform synthesis, high capacity telecommunications or astrophysical spectrometer calibration where access to individual comb modes is needed.
