Origins of behavioural variability: categorical and discriminative assessment in serial contests

Article Abstract:

The behavior of animal is challenging to document and understand largely due to its variability and apparent unpredictability. The hawk-dove game, the asymmetrical war of attrition and the sequential assessment game are the three basic approaches that are used to assess the pairwise contests.
