Ornithologists stunned by bird collector's deceit

Article Abstract:

A report presented at the annual meeting of the American Ornithologists' Union in Santa Barbara, California revealed that the British Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen collected a large proportion of bird specimen, which were fraudulently labeled and many were stolen. Detailed analysis into Meinertzhagen's fraudulent activities found that he was stealing specimens, as early as 1914, from the British Museum and other institutions, then retagging them with catalogue details of his own making.

Universities scramble to assess scope of falsified results

Article Abstract:

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) had fired immunologist Luk Van Parijs for fabricating and falsifying data. It is explained that Van Parijis, an associate professor of biology, had acknowledged to its officials that he altered data in one published article, in unpublished manuscripts and in giant applications.
