Pall hangs over desert's future as alien weeds fuel wildfires

Article Abstract:

Ecologist fear that the uncontrolled spread of exotic weeds could trigger an ecological disaster in the area around Sonoran Desert, as the frequency of fires rises dramatically in Arizona. The weeds have become a serious threat to desert biodiversity, as these cactus takes decades to grow back after a fire.

Primatologist rocks Gibraltar by quitting over macaque cull

Article Abstract:

Primatologists in protest at the culling of a group of marauding Barbary macaques has pulled out of field research in Gibraltar. The well-characterized population of macaques provides an ideal model for ecologists studying the genetic effects of habitat fragmentation.
