Phosphorylation of Erp1 by p90rsk is required for cytostatic factor arrest in Xenopus laevis eggs

Article Abstract:

A report that in Xenopus eggs Erp1 is a substrate of p90rsk, and that Mos-dependent phosphorylation of Erp1 by p90rsk at Thr 336, Ser342 and Ser344 is crucial for stabilizing Erp1 and establishing cytostatic factor (CSF) arrest in melosis II oocytesis presented. Semi-quantitative analysis with CSF-arrested egg extracts reveals that the Mos-dependent phosphorylation of Erp1 enhances but does not generate the activity of Erp1 that maintains metaphase arrest.

Cell cycle unleashed

Article Abstract:

A demonstration on the way the cell-cycle is released by fertilization, which requires the activity of a protein complex called APC/C(super Cdc20) is presented. This complex is a highly regulated enzyme that targets several cell-cycle regulatory proteins for destruction by attaching a ubiquitin group to them.

Transient activation of calcineurin is essential to initiate embryonic development in Xenopus laevis

Article Abstract:

The effect of addition of cytosolic calcium ions in the transient activation of calcineurin for embryonic development in Xenopus laevis is studied. Results reveal that the movement of male and female pronuclei towards each other is blocked in fertilized eggs.
