Photovoice: Record what is important to you

Article Abstract:

An estimated 200 men and women in the remote northwest corner of China's Yunnan Province who began photographing their daily lives, their landscapes, livelihoods, families and friends, following the directive 'record what is important to you'. The collection of their photographs called Photovoice is fantastic, inspiring and informative and also documents the indivisible union existing between the people of Yunnan and the nature of Yunnan.

Paradise found: the rising popularity of the fragile reefs and islands of the Tortugas

Article Abstract:

A description of the Dry Tortugas National Park is presented, which is located within the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Topics include proposals for ecological management of the park, such as requiring permits for scuba divers and a moratorium on fishing; the impact of sewage runoff and traffic pollutants on plant and animal life is also discussed.

Roots of tradition

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on the effects of pepper root crops on the island ecology of Pohnpei, Micronesia. Cultivation of the root, which is used to make the ceremonial drink sakau, has expanded into the steep mountain woods, resulting in deforestation, erosion and landslides.
