Policing integrity

Article Abstract:

The investigation of plagiarism and other misconduct remains difficult, as universities dread the adverse publicity that will accompany any finding of misconduct. Various systems are established in the US, Britain and other nations such as Office of Research Integrity (ORI) and Universities UK respectively which are aimed to investigate misconduct properly, publicize the findings, and punish the culprits.

Article Abstract:

Magnus, the director of the Stanford centre states that bench-side consultations are a way of integrating ethical thinking into a scientist's everyday life. He does not think bioethicists should be expected to prevent misconduct but believes that his bench side service can foster integrity in trainee scientists and indirectly prevent research going off the ethical rails.

Early embryos can yield stem cells... and survive

Article Abstract:

Embryonic stem cells are typically extracted from an embryo that has developed a blastocyst eventually pulling apart the embryo and destroying it. A process, which demonstrates that human embryonic stem-cell lines can be grown without the controversial destruction of human embryos, is presented.
