Porcine zona pellucida immunocontraception: long-term health effects on white-tailed deer

Article Abstract:

Physiological attributes are compared between control and treated white-tailed deer populations to determine the effects of using porcine zona pellucida as an immunological contraceptive. Serum chemistry panels showed no pathological changes, and seasonal cholesterol variations were similar for both groups. Body weights were also similar once pregnancies in the control group were taken into account.

Does immunocontraception improve condition of free-ranging female white-tailed deer?

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that immunologic contraception does not promote observable improvements in white-tailed deer body condition in comparison to that of pregnant deer. The hypothesis was that the absence of gestation and lactation as a result of immunocontraception would foster better body condition, a theory that was not supported by this study.
