Predictable packaging

Article Abstract:

DNA sequence is normally used for predicting the positions of all the nucleosomes in a genome, as it not only encodes the instructions for life in its sequence of base pairs but also provides signposts for regulating its own readout. Studies have confirmed that the DNA sequence might not be the most significant determinant of nucleosome position as the accuracy of mapping is inadequate and dinucleotide frequencies are insufficient as input.

X-ray structure of a tetranucleosome and its implications for the chromatin fibre

Article Abstract:

The crystal structure of an oligonucleosome at 9-Angstrom resolution solved by molecular replacement using the nucleosome core structures is reported. The structure shows that linker DNA zigzags back and forth between two stacks of nucleosome cores, which form a truncated two-start helix, and does not follow a path compatible with a one start solenoidal helix.

The structure of DNA in the nucleosome core

Article Abstract:

The structure of DNA in the nucleosome core is explained. The DNA structure is quite different from that in oligonucleotides and non- histone protein- DNA complexes.
