Preparing pure photon number states of the radiation field

Article Abstract:

A new method of generating number states allows generated states to be analyzed in an unambiguous way afterwards. This research used pulsed excitation of the atoms, thus permitting predetermination of the number of atoms passing through the cavity. It was possible to produce number states with a purity of 99% for the n = 1 state and 95% for the n = 2 state. It is is concluded that dissipative loss caused by cavity decay in the delay to a probe atom largely influences the measured deviation from a pure number state.

A single-photon detector in the far-infrared range

Article Abstract:

Studies in the far-infrared region are hampered due to the absence of sensitive detectors. Single far-infrared photons in the wavelength range 175-210 mu m were detected using a single-electron transistor comprising a semiconductor quantum dot in high magnetic field. An incident flux of 0.1 photons per second was detected, exceeding previously reported values.

Correlated electron emission in multiphoton double ionization

Article Abstract:

There is a strong correlation between the magnitude and the direction of the momentum of two electrons emitted from an argon atom, driven by a femtosecond laser pulse. The enhanced double ionization in strong fields is caused by a rescattering which is a result of the driving field.
