Protein structure and introns

Article Abstract:

The discovery of a unique intron mapping in the triose phosphate isomerase (TIM) gene of a mosquito has resulted in promoting the understanding of intron-mediated assembly of ancestral RNA genetic units encoding protein structural modes. Investigations reveal that the position of introns does not signify that old introns were involved in the original assembly of genes and that they could have been inserted later depending on efficient retainment of the RNA structure. The new intron position in TIM can be predicted by an analysis of protein structure.

The RNA-binding protein FCA is an abscisic acid receptor

Article Abstract:

FCA, an RNA-binding protein involved in flowering, binds abscisic acid (ABA) with high affinity in an interaction that is stereospecific and follows receptor kinetics and affects the ability of the plant to undergo transition to flowering. It is seen that ABA binding exerts a direct control on the FCA-mediated processing of precursor messenger RNA and that FCA is an ABA receptor involved in RNA metabolism and in controlling flowering time.

A channel for protein waste

Article Abstract:

Malfunctioning proteins within the body are destroyed by cells after it identifies them with a small polypeptide marker called ubiquitin and turns such proteins into peptides and glycans. This channel for protein waste is also used by certain viruses inside the body.
