Quasi-phase-matched generation of coherent extreme-ultraviolet light

Article Abstract:

A modulated hollow-core waveguide can be used to vary the intensity of laser light being used to generate extreme ultraviolet light, even if the ambient gas experiences high ionization, according to researchers in the US and Bulgaria. The modulated fiber shifts the energy spectrum of the high-harmonic light to higher photon energies than otherwise possible. The technique could find application in advanced lithography and high-resolution imaging.

Extreme light: Physicists are planning lasers powerful enough to rip apart the fabric of space and time

Article Abstract:

Physicists are working on laser beams obtained from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) that might ignite a fusion reaction that turns a tiny pellet of hydrogen at the lasers' focus into helium. The Laboratory of Applied Optics in France is working to show that the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) could work, which might enable scientists to pursue fundamental, curiosity-driven science and it would also be cheaper to build and run.

Shaped-pulse optimization of coherent emission of high-harmonic soft X-rays

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the light - atom interaction which occurs when atoms are ionized by use of an intense laser pulse focused into a gas. The harmonics of the interaction are discussed.
