The role of queens in colonies of the swarm-founding wasp Parachartergus colobopterus

Article Abstract:

Research is presented describing the role of swarm-founding wasp queens, Parachartergus colobopterus, in reducing reproductively-active queen numbers and regulating worker activity. No evidence for either activity is found.

Queens, not workers, produce the males in the stingless bee Schwarziana quadripunctata quadripunctata

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate whether genetic conflict over male production resulted in reproductive and behavioral conflict in Schwarziana quadripunctata . The result reveals that the genetic conflict does not manifest itself in an increased measurable behavioral conflict between the two casts.

The queen is not a pacemaker in the small - colony wasps Polistes instabilis and P. dominulus

Article Abstract:

Variations in the role of the queen in different small wasp colonies are discussed. Queen's activity and workers' contribution in the colonies of Polistes instabilis and Polistes dominulus is presented.
