Rad52 protein stimulates DNA strand exchange by Rad51 and replication protein A

Article Abstract:

Rad52 protein stimulates DNA strand exchange by targeting Rad51 protein to a complex of replication protein A (RPA) with single-stranded DNA. It appears that Rad52 protein facilitates the loading of Rad51 protein onto RPA-single stranded DNA. The activities of Rad52 protein are significant in double-strand DNA break repair and homologous recombination, but they cannot totally account for all the roles of RAD52 in these processes.

Direct observation of individual RecA filaments assembling on single DNA molecules

Article Abstract:

The direct observation of filament assembly on individual double-stranded DNA molecules is presented using fluorescently modified RecA nucleoprotein filament. The formation of nascent RecA filaments is independent of ATP hydrolysis but is dependent on the nucleotide cofactor and the RecA concentration. Results have indicated that assembly in vivo is controlled at the nucleation step.
