Radiotransmitter mount type affects burrowing owl survival

Article Abstract:

Research on burrowing owls using two different radiotransmitters with varying total mass was conducted at two sites in California. It was observed that burrowing owl survival was negatively affected by radiotransmitters regardless of mounting method, and this pattern was consistent across age, classes, sites and years.

Comparison of detection probability associated with burrowing owl survey methods

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that call-broadcast combined with standardized point-counts along roadsides provide the best means for tracking burrowing owl population trends at large spatial scales. Studies were conducted in eastern Wyoming during the summer months of 2000.

Estimation of reproductive rates of burrowing owls

Article Abstract:

Research on burrowing owl populations indicates that counts of young owls seen outside burrows are not an adequate means of assessing factors that influence species reproductive rates. Implications for the use of observation in wildlife research are discussed.
