Recent advances in cys-loop receptor structure and function

Article Abstract:

Communication in the nervous system relies on postsynaptic receptors to detect neurotransmitters and change the membrane potential. For the Cys-loop superfamily of receptors, structural data has advanced understanding of the three steps of chemical-to-electrical transduction, and analyses of disease-causing mutations clarify receptor structure-function relationships and mechanisms governing the postsynaptic response.

Music, the food of neuroscience?

Article Abstract:

The role of music in providing help to learn about speech, brain plasticity, the origins of emotion and the numerous aspects of neuroscience is described. Art and culture have their origins in the function and structure of the human nervous system and hence they provide valuable scientific insights on understanding of the interplay between the environment and the brain.
