Recovery of learning and memory is associated with chromatin remodelling

Article Abstract:

A mouse model that allows temporally and spatially restricted induction of neuronal loss is used for showing that environmental enrichment reinstated learning behavior and re-established access to long-term memories after significant brain atrophy and neuronal loss. The results have shown that inhibition of histone deacetylases can be used a therapeutic method for neurodegenerative diseases associated with learning and memory impairment, and also raises the possibility of long-term memories in patients with dementia.

Regulation of HP1-chromatin binding by histone H3 methylation and phosphorylation

Article Abstract:

The HP1alpha, beta, and gamma are released from chromatin during the M phase of the cell cycle is presented even though tri-methylation levels of histone H3 lysine 9 remain unchanged. The findings of the study establish a regulatory mechanism of protein-protein interactions, through a combinational readout of two adjacent post-translational modifications, a stable methylation and a dynamic phosphorylation mark.
