Red colobus and Diana monkeys provide mutual protection against predators

Article Abstract:

Interspecific associations between animals may provide mutual protection against predators. A new study of red colobus and Diana monkeys in the Ivory Coast's Tai National Park investigates the reasons for associations between the two groups of monkeys. The study shows that neither species had improved foraging success when associated, although they were less vulnerable to bird predation.

Lack of pubertal influences on female dispersal in muriqui monkeys, Brachyteles arachnoides

Article Abstract:

Research is presented describing the use of noninvasive methods of faecal steroid assays to study the dispersal timing of wild female muriqui monkeys in relation to ovarian cycling and puberty. In this species the females transfer from their natal groups and the males are philopatric.
