Regulated cell-to-cell variation in a cell-fate decision system

Article Abstract:

The quantitative behavior and cell-to-cell variability of a prototypical eukaryotic cell-fate decision system is studied in addition to the mating pheromone response pathway in yeast. Results identify two mechanisms that regulate cell-to-cell variation in pathway capacity, namely, the MAP kinase Fus3 that suppresses variation at the high pheromone level and the MAP kinase Kss1 that enhances variation at low pheromone levels.

The SRA protein Np95 mediates epigenetic inheritance by recruiting Dnmt1 to methylated DNA

Article Abstract:

The Np95 protein uses its SET and RING finger-associated (SRA) domain to bind methylated CpG. The presence of hemi-methylated DNA strongly influences the localization of mouse Np95 to replicating heterochromatin.
