Regulation of p53 activity through lysine methylation

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to demonstrate that histone methyltransferase, Set9, is not limited to histones, but it is also able to methylate the tumour suppressor p53. The crystal structure of a ternary complex of Set9 with a p53 peptide and the cofactor product S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine provides the molecular basis for recognition of p53 by lysine methyltransferase.

Tumorigenic transformation by CPI-17 through inhibition of a merlin phosphatase

Article Abstract:

The enzyme myosin phosphatase (MYPT-1-PP1delta) is identified as the phosphatase that activates merlin's tumour suppressor function. It is shown that the cellular MYPT-1-PP1delta-specific inhibitor CPI-17 causes a loss of merlin function characterized by merlin phosphorylation, Ras activation and phenotype transformation.

Putting on the brakes

Article Abstract:

The concept of tumours suppression is focused. It is stated that, the multiplication of tumour cells is suppressed by the same set of genes as those that suppress the multiplication of normal cells of the same type, during the process of differentiation.
