Relation between century-scale Holocene arid intervals in tropical and temperate zones

Article Abstract:

Lake-sediment records obtained from the montane Mediterranean zone, Morocco, are used to identify century-scale arid intervals during the Holocene period in temperate continental regions. The climate records for tropical regions reveal the presence of these intervals. The same type of intervals occurs in temperate regions, but the flora does not vary with the changes in climate.

Host specificity of Lepidoptera in tropical and temperate forests

Article Abstract:

The host specificity is tested by comparing host specialization in larval Lepidoptera at different New World forest sites in latitude from 15 [degree] S to 55 [degree] N. The greater specialization in tropical faunas is because of the differences in trophic interactions.

Ancient wild olives in Mediterranean forests

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to identify evidence of the survival of indigenous oleaster populations in the Mediterranean basin, especially the western area. The wild stocks are genetically different from and more variable than the crop forms or their derived feral forms.
