Remember that photon

Article Abstract:

An elementary quantum network operation involves retrieving and transporting information in an atomic quantum memory node. This is accomplished by generating a single photon on demand, catching it and releasing it some time later, which promises absolutely secure transformation of the key codes that are essential to decipher encrypted message.

To catch a photon

Article Abstract:

The search for the ultimate photon detector has been driven by astronomers, who are often faced with a limited number of photons to measure. A new single pixel device can do this and could also be built up into a large array suitable for a telescope.

Trouble at first light

Article Abstract:

The question of how much light the first stars produced is fundamental to models of the Universe's development. When the first stars ignited they emitted large numbers of photons at ultraviolet wavelengths.
