Requirement of the paraxis gene for somite formation and musculoskeletal patterning

Article Abstract:

Paraxial mesoderm cells fail to form epithelia in mice homozygous for a paraxis null mutation that results in disruption of somite formation. Paraxis is a helix-loop-helix transcription factor expressed in paraxial cells and somites. The absence of normal somites gives rise to improper patterns in axial skeleton and skeletal muscles. The segmentation of the embryo is independent of the formation of epithelial somites. Thus, paraxis regulates somite morphogenesis in mice embryos.

IGF-1 induces skeletal myocyte hypertrophy through calcineurin in association with GATA-2 and NF-ATc1

Article Abstract:

The expression patterns of the CnA and CnB subunits in parental L6E9 and in L6MLC/IGF-1 cultures during differentiation were analyzed to determine if calcineurin signalling participates in IGF-1-mediated hypertrophy. The results suggest that skeletal and cardiac muscle cells have some elements of a common signalling system, where calcineurin controls muscle hypertrophy by regulating combinatorial associations of NF-AT and GATA transcription factors.
