Researcher fights suspension over funds

Article Abstract:

Anaesthesiology researcher Dennis Mangano is currently on unpaid, stress-related leave from his tenured professorship at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). The university authorities suspended him for three years from Jun 1, 1999, for using drug company grants for a non-profit foundation he directed. However, he began legal proceedings to block the academic disciplinary action before the suspension could start. His attorneys allege that he was denied due process and that UCSF rules on non-profit foundations were not violated.

Researcher sues university over rights to transgenic technology

Article Abstract:

A molecular embryologist, Anthony Perry, is suing the University of Hawaii over exploitation of a novel transgenic technique, alleging that the university licensed the technology to a small biotechnology company without his permission. The university claims that it holds sole patent rights and title to the technology and licensed it appropriately. Perry was working with Ryuzo Yanagimachi's mouse-cloning team at Hawaii, and Perry claims to have invented the transgenic technology, as well as other novel methods used by the team.
