Resource competition and social conflict in experimental populations of yeast

Article Abstract:

The outcome of global competition is investigated by competing isogenic respirer and respiro-fermenter yeast strains in glucose-limited chemostats. The cheater has a higher fitness than the cooperator in the chemostat and competition results in exclusion of the cooperator.
