Response of cells in monkey visual cortex during perceptual filling-in of an artificial scotoma

Article Abstract:

Artificial scotoma (peripheral vision) in monkeys show that the responses of extrastriate visual neurons, with receptive fields enveloping the hole, are enhanced to the same level as in the no-hole texture case. The observed time period of the perceived filling-in of a hole is similar to the dynamics of active changes in vision, indicating the mechanism of perceptual filling-in.

Different time courses of learning-related activity in the prefrontal cortex and striatum

Article Abstract:

It is shown that during associative learning in monkeys, neural activity in these areas changes at different rates. The striatum showed, almost bistable, changes compared with a slower trend in the prefrontal cortex that was more in accordance with slow improvements in behavioral performance.

A neutral basis for visual search in inferior temporal cortex

Article Abstract:

Monkeys were used for an experiment to find a neutral basis for visual search. The neurons in inferior temporal cortex are involved in selecting the objects to which we attend. The inferior temporal cortex is an area known to be important for high level visual processing.
