Sampling design and bias in DNA-based capture-mark-recapture population and density estimates of Grizzly Bears

Article Abstract:

Two sampling designs were assessed over a 3-year period for estimating the population size of grizzly bears (Ursus arctos), using the DNA capture-mark-recapture methods in British Columbia, Canada. The trade-off between intensive sampling to ensure robustness and the adequate precision of estimators is illustrated.

Success of grizzly bear population augmentation in northwest Montana

Article Abstract:

An experimental report on site fidelity, reproduction, and long-term survival of the translocated bears and use of DNA hair-grab sampling to track survival and reproductive fate of the translocated female is presented.

Estimating Grizzly bear distribution and abundance relative to habitat and human influence

Article Abstract:

Factors that influence and predict grizzly bear distribution are discussed. The evaluation of relationship of grizzly bears detections with landscape variables of habitat and human activity is also highlighted.
