Scale dependency of rarity, extinction risk, and conservation priority

Article Abstract:

The article demonstrates the importance of sensitivity of scale in categorizing extinction risk for endangered species, using two plant species in Britain. A 200-fold reversal in the plants' relative rarity was produced when they were measured at different scales.

Relative Contribution of Inbreeding Depression and Eroded Adaptive Diversity to Extinction Risk in Small Populations of Shore Campion

Article Abstract:

Research on shore campion populations in Spain shows that short-term survival was more affected by inbreeding depression than by genetic loss involved in environment and genotype interactions. Adaptive diversity was found to be key to reintroduction success.

Regeneration of Native Trees in the Presence of Invasive Saltcedar in the Colorado River Delta, Mexico

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that a pulse flood regime will help regenerate native riparian plants threatened by an invasive species in Mexico's Colorado River Delta, and that fire management will help the development of mature tree stands.
