Live seafood species as recipes for invasion

Article Abstract:

The article examines the seafood industry as a conduit for species introduction. Findings show that 24 of 37 seafood bivalve and marine species available in the western US are nonindigenous and therefore a significant risk of introduction exists. Mitigation strategies include seafood distributor and consumer education and coastal ecosystem monitoring.

Feral Goat Eradications on Islands

Article Abstract:

Tools such as geographic information systems, global positioning systems, specialized hunting dogs, and aerial hunting using helicopters are cited as successful methods for eradicating introduced goat populations from islands. Collaboration between biologists and sociologists and island residents raising domestic goats is recommended.

Effect of introduced mosquitofish on Pacific treefrogs and the role of alternative prey

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the ecological impact of mosquitofish introduction as a method of mosquito control in freshwater streams. Results included suggest mosquitofish prey on California newt and treefrog eggs as well as mosquito larvae, which may have a negative impact on these animal populations.
