Science advisers face 'credibility crisis.'

Article Abstract:

The executive committee of the EPA's Science Advisory Board has been warned of a potential 'credibility crisis' for scientists advising policymakers. Michael Rodemeyer, chief Democratic counsel to the House's Science Committee, and Thomas Sliter, minority staff director for the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, said scientific uncertainty adds to a growing perception that science does not have anything to contribute to political and regulatory decision-making. They admitted to the group of environmental scientists Congress' failure to distinguish between science and policy.

NASA relativity probe facing costly delay

Article Abstract:

NASA's project to test Einstein's general theory of relativity in Earth orbit has hit problems that could raise costs and delay the launch. The Gravity Probe B (GPB) spacecraft aimed to measure the frame dragging effect but there is a problem of heat not being conducted out from the interior of the spacecraft. Project managers believe that thermal problems should be relatively easy to resolve.
