Science in an exponential world

Article Abstract:

Most scientists replace their notebooks with desktop computers that record their results, provide a portal to the scientific literature and link them to collaborators via e-mail and perform data analysis. Databases provide tools to organize large data sets, find objects that match certain criteria, compute statistics about the data and analyze them to find patterns, but have to evolve and be constantly updated to keep pace with scientists working in experiments experiencing exponential growth.

Pierre Potier (1934-2006)

Article Abstract:

Pierre Potier, an innovative scientist was a leading light in the development of anticancer drugs from natural sources, and also in encouraging communication between public and private sectors. He was also involved in studying the origin of the degenerative effects of diabetes and his greatest contributions came from a succession of discoveries involving the chemistry of yew tree.

The flow of students and researchers into the United States are decreasing because of the other attractive destinations like Britain and Australia. Australian Universities are entrepreneurial in their efforts to attract students from Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
