Season-long fecundity, survival, and viability of ovenbirds in fragmented and unfragmented landscapes

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the impact of habitat fragmentation on the annual fecundity of ovenbirds in Missouri. Findings suggest fewer bird pairs successfully raised chicks in fragmented environments, fragmentation negatively affected population density, and landscape did not affect territory size, male pairing success, or survival.

Effectiveness of predicting breeding bird distributions using probabilistic models

Article Abstract:

Statistical analysis attempts to quantify the success of certain sets of environmental data for predicting the distribution of birds on regional scales. The results of models evaluating the ability of climate, vegetation, and spacial data to forecast the presence or absence of certain species of birds are presented.

A framework for conceptualizing human effects on landscapes and its relevance to management and research models

Article Abstract:

A scheme is presented that places landscape states on a continuum depending on the degree of habitat destruction. Traditional models of habitat fragmentation cannot adequately account for the range of landscape configurations caused by various disturbances.
