Seeking the bigger picture in the puzzle

Article Abstract:

Genomics is playing an increasingly significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Human Genome Sciences is seeking to begin phase I clinical testing of myeloid progenitor inhibitory factor-1, a human protein screened from 300 full-length genes, while the National Cancer Institute is developing the use of genomics and other technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The cancer genome anatomy project aims to construct cDNA libraries and to create mechanisms for development of technologies allowing molecular analysis of gene and protein expression.

Fusion induces tumour rejection

Article Abstract:

A new method to activate the response of human cytotoxic T lymphocytes against tumor cells promises to boost current cancer therapy. A group of researchers has found that fusing entire tumor cells with cultured, human, antigen-presenting dendritic cells produces fusion hybrid cells which can be used to generate a strong anti-tumor activity. Their research also indicates that the anti-tumor activity occurs not only against primary tumors but also against pre-established metastatic disease.

Metastasis suppressor gene KiSS-1 encodes peptide ligand of a G-protein -coupked receptor

Article Abstract:

Research investigating the gene KiSS-1 responsible for metastasis suppression in cancer patients is presented. Particular attention is given to examination of the processes by which KiSS-1 encodes a carboxy-terminally amidated peptide with residues of 54 amino-acids.
