Seizing global warming as an opportunity

Article Abstract:

The importance that the UK's new Labour government's places on environmental reform is reinforced by the unrivaled high-powered delegation it is sending to a United Nations meeting in New York, celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Earth Summit. Prime minister Tony Blair plans to call on other nations to follow Britain's lead in reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, thought to be the cause of global warming. However, Blair's ability to devise sound economic policies are heavily reliant on reliable science.

No more hot air

Article Abstract:

The 2007 G8 summit is being held in Heiligendamm where the summit leaders will have to confront the issue of global warming and greenhouse-gas emissions. The G8 summit can sort out the climate issues by a robust and effective follow-up to the Kyoto Protocol that requires countries to reduce their greenhouse-gas emissions by an average relative to 1990 levels in the 2008-12 commitment period.

Two cheers for the G8

Article Abstract:

Meeting in Scotland of the Group of Eight leading industrialized nations attempted to tackle the two main issues of Africa and climate change. The G8 recognized that development projects must be African-led and also reaffirmed the role of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in responding to climate change.
