Sense out of missense

Article Abstract:

The studies of genetically engineered p53 mutant proteins in mice help in clarifying how mutations in the human p53 protein produce a wide variety of tumors. Few of the p53 mutations delete chunks of the protein while most of the mutations are missense mutations that result in a change in a single amino acid, leaving the rest of the protein intact.

The moving finger

Article Abstract:

Genetic engineering and gene transfer technologies have produced a wealth of new ideas about how to teat genetic disease. The DNA sequence that Urnov et al. altered is one that is mutated in one form of severe combined immunodeficiency is a disease that without bone marrow transplantation or gene therapy is fatal early childhood.

New order for thought disorders

Article Abstract:

Genetic manipulations in mice by using neuregulin (Nrg1) are being conducted to study and analyze the various complex human psychiatric disorders like schizophrenia. The study presents the various factors associated with such disorders, thus assessing the therapeutic potential of various treatment strategies.
