The capacity of visual working memory for features and conjunctions

Article Abstract:

Research into short-term memory storage shows that visual working memory has a maximum capacity of up to four colours or orientations. Evidence from a sequential comparison procedure suggests that integrated objects instead of single features are stored in working memory. Features can be stored in a linked format. Stimulus arrays and related performances in sequential comparison tasks are shown.

Neural measures reveal individual differences in controlling access to working memory

Article Abstract:

A neurophysiological measure of the memory selection mechanism in humans that gauges an individual's efficiency at excluding irrelevant items from being stored in memory is reported. The results prove that under many circumstances low capacity individuals might actually store more information in memory than high capacity individuals.

Neutral activity predicts individual differences in visual working memory capacity

Article Abstract:

The lateralized activity in humans that reflects the encoding and maintenance of items in visual memory is described. A neurophysiological predictor of an individual's capacity is provided which demonstrates a direct relationship between neutral activity and memory capacity.
