The evolution of conformity-enforcing behaviour in cultural communication system

Article Abstract:

Conformity is an important aspect of many communication systems in which signals are culturally transmitted. It is found that conformity-enforcing behaviour, a preference to attack nonshares, is a more successful strategy than ignoring conformity.

Song learning by chaffinches: how accurate, and from where?

Fifty years of bird song research: a case study in animal behavior

Article Abstract:

Both technical and theoretical advances catalyse the growth of bird song research over the past half century. The study of mechanisms has largely moved to the neurological level, where work on bird song has blossomed.
