Spatial mobility of breeding female white-tailed deer in a low-density population

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that female white-tailed deer in a low-density population in northern Florida play active roles in mate acquisition was tested. The measured increase in mobility of breeding females indicated a behavioral shift from a sit-and-wait strategy during pre-rut to an active search strategy for mates during peak-rut and post-rut. This suggested that low abundance of adult males may affect population dynamics negatively.

Joint effects of density dependence and rainfall on abundance of San Joaquin kit fox

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to develop a model which should assist managers in reducing the risk faced by San Joaquin kit fox populations from the impact of variable annual precipitation. This model can give a one-year warning of when the kit fox population is likely to become dangerously low.

Estimation of a nonlinear density-dependence parameter for wild turkey

Article Abstract:

The density dependence of wild turkey (Meleagris gallapavo) is analyzed by using harvest-index time series from 11state wildlife agencies. The density-dependence is found to be nonlinear and a useful parameter to measure the growth rate.
