Implant boosts activity in injured brain

Article Abstract:

Neuroscientists have shown that brain function can be improved in patients in a minimally conscious state by electrically stimulating a specific brain region with implanted electrodes. The deep-brain stimulation (DBS) might be adapted to benefit some patients in the minimally conscious state and improvements can be made by patients even long after an injury.
