Strain-resolved community proteomics reveals recombining genomes of acidophilic bacteria

Article Abstract:

The community genomic data sets were used to identify, with strain specificity, expressed proteins from the dominant member of a genomically uncharacterized, natural, acidophilic biofilm. The findings suggest that exchange of large blocks of gene variants is crucial for the adaptation to specific ecological niches within the very acidic, metal-rich environment.

Metagenomic and functional analysis of hindgut microbiota of a wood-feeding higher termite

Article Abstract:

A metagenomic analysis of the bacterial community resident in the hindgut paunch of a wood-feeding higher Nasutitermes species is reported. The diverse set of bacterial genes exhibit functional ability for hydrolysis of cellulose and xylan.

Community structure and metabolism through reconstruction of microbial genomes from the environment

Article Abstract:

Microbial communities are vital in the functioning of all ecosystems. Reconstruction of microbial genomes is presented using random shotgun sequencing of DNA from a natural acidophilic biofilm.
