Superconductivity's cousin

Article Abstract:

The transformations of SO(5) symmetry can be constructed by linking the three components of the antiferromagnetic order parameter and the two real components of the d-wave superconducting order parameter into a single five-component vector. This approach allows it to be shown that the microscopic models are not consistent with an enlarged symmetry unless the order parameter of the superconductor has d-wave symmetry. This research sheds new light on the assumed connection between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity.

Time-reversal symmetry-breaking superconductivity in Sr2RuO4

Article Abstract:

The spontaneous appearance of an internal magnetic field below the transition temperature has been identified in muon spin-relaxation measurements on the superconductor SrRuO4. The presence of a field of this kind demonstrates that the superconducting state in this material can be identified by the breaking of time-reversal symmetry. There is strong evidence for Cooper pairing with spin-triplet symmetry. However, it is not possible to distinguish between the unitary and non-unitary states in Sr2RuO4.

Nickel probes superconductivity

Article Abstract:

When a magnetic nickel atom is added to a high-temperature superconductor, the nickel weakly perturbs its local environment in the superconductor. This indicates that this impurity has potential as a non-invasive probe of superconducting behaviour on the nanoscale.
