Symmetry as destiny - taking a balanced view of IQ

Article Abstract:

A study showing that the heritability of psychometric intelligence remains unchanged throughout life, when coupled with separate research suggesting that asymmetry of biological traits can result from biological stress, could mean that nurture and nature are no longer in opposition. The dearth of sensible systems to measure variability of genetic influences and the variability of environments, coupled with the lack of consensus between researchers as to how to handle observations of variation in intelligence leads to the conclusion that nature's influence is dependent on genetic predisposition.

Yes, but what's it for? The current state of language can make it difficult to discuss evolution in an accurate way

Article Abstract:

Language is very ineffective in giving science clear, concise ways of showing that randomness in a procedure does not inevitably bring random results, so that purpose is not always needed to account for order. The restrictions of language make it hard to distinguish between fitness for function and purpose intended.
