TBASE: a computerized database for transgenic animals and targeted mutations

Article Abstract:

Research on transgenic animals and targeted mutations has been made possible by a computerized database called TBASE. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and the Genome Data Base (GDB) organization at Johns Hopkins University (JHV) jointly operate the TBASE. Information on any animal can be obtained by the data categories used with each TABASE record. Interested users can talk across the database through Internet or a dial-up telecommnication link.

Pressure grows for inquiry into welfare of transgenic animals

Article Abstract:

There is a call in Britain for a commission of inquiry to look into the welfare of transgenic animals. The number of transgenic animals bred in the UK has increased and a survey of public attitudes found that the majority of people in European Union countries believe it is morally unacceptable to create transgenic animals for research. Some animal rights movements want a broader royal comission on animals in research.
