Legislative mandates of the Endangered Species Act and a plea for consistent use of technical terms

Article Abstract:

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) is aimed at protecting plants and animals whose existence is in peril and species conservation programs can be benefited if the act is fully understood by interested parties. Controversial issues raised by the ESA can only be resolved if facts and values are clearly separated, The consistent use of technical terms will help improve communication between interested parties. Essential ESA definitions are presented.
