Terrorist betting leaves defense agency fighting for autonomy

Article Abstract:

FutureMAP (Futures Markets Applied to Prediction) project set up by Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) looks whether trading on a futures market could help to predict the likelihood of a terrorist act being committed. DARPA spends more than US dollar three billion each year on unconventional research ranging from quantum computing to biomimetics.

Bush and Congress set debate on priorities

The U.S. President George W. Bush and the Democratic Congress are debating on their science priorities in the 2008 budget. The president has urged the Congress to sanction the National Institutes of Health (NIH) $28.7 billion in 2008, thereby pleasing the research advocates and the NIH director immensely.
