That sinking feeling

Article Abstract:

Siberia's vast forest absorbs huge quantities of carbon form the atmosphere but due to the fire in summer 2003, which incinerated an area of 22 million hectares has resulted in the release of about more than 250 million tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere. This is the same amount of carbon what the industrialized countries have pledged to cut from their emissions by 2012 under the Kyoto agreement.

Climate credits

Article Abstract:

The impact of carbon offsetting on reducing carbon dioxide and greenhouse-gas emissions are examined. Voluntary carbon offsetting might help in solving the climate change problem as it can deal with the remaining emissions once avoidable energy consumption is eliminated.
