The X-ray-emitting trail of the nearby pulsar PSR1929 + 10

Article Abstract:

A study by the X-ray satellite Rosat identified the existence of a nebula in association with the nearby pulsar PSR1929 + 10. The rotational energy of rapidly spinning magnetized neutron stars (pulsars) are reduced by the emission of relativistic particles. Since the lifetime of a pulsar is greater than that of the remnant supernova explosion in which the pulsar was born, the relativistic wind from the pulsars interact directly with the interstellar medium. This interaction causes the observable pulsar wind nebulae. The nebula found in association with the pulsar PSR1929 + 10 is observed as a diffused X-ray feature which is linear in the direction opposite to the pulsar's proper motion.

A well-fed black hole

Article Abstract:

NGC1068 is the archetype of a subset of active galaxies whose central engines are hidden from conventional view by a dense torus made of gas and dust. Radio observations suggest that the torus conceals a black hole of 10 to 20 million solar masses. Gas is swirling into the hole at such high rate compared to the hole's mass that the nucleus is radiating close to the theoretical limit. Observation of water masers suggest that the combined luminosity of all the wavelengths is half the Eddington limit.

The 'solar model problem' solved by the abundance of neon in nearby stars

Article Abstract:

Neon-to-oxygen ratios measured in a sample of nearby solar-like stars are reported using their X-ray spectra. The role of the Sun as a fundamental benchmark of stellar evolution theory depicts the 'solar model problem' and the solar model problem motivates the investigation of Ne abundances in nearby stars.
